Congratulations to all of our H-litter Akitas whose 4th birthday was on February 23th. Ute and Werner from Schwelm sent us some nice greetings and two pictures of their Hanko. He is gorgeous and fine, as usual, and they are really happy to share their home with him.
A picture is worth a thousand words. This statement is true for this photo, taken during vacation in Tuscany last September.
For this, the quote of the day by Johannes Rau: “My dog is a disaster as a dog, but irreplaceable as a human.”. For all American Akita lovers who sometimes dream of going with their dogs to the dog park, watching and enjoying the frolic of the dogs. But deep inside we know that it is the very nature of our dog that inspires us and we value their
independence and autonomy so that they can become great steadfast companions in almost all situations.
So much for good old farmer’s rules. But our doggies seem to be happy as it is, especially since the winter has finally brought snow. And as we have not actually posted any winter pictures yet, there is quite a lot coming now . All of them made during our today’s dog school stay, where the doggies really enjoyed the afternoon. Only we were very cold with frozen fingers and toes at - 16 ° C.
But as another farmer wisdom says:
If it does not snow in February, cold comes on Easter.
And we do not want that, of course.

A small but still important supplement to our Akita group photo yesterday.
Our Jane was a birthday Akita. Our girl is 8 years now and enjoys excellent health. After her castration last May she got a thick, soft fur and we have to pay more attention to her figure. In our house, she has become calmer and more balanced and lets Shadow play the boss. Only when he is too cocky, he'll get an announcement of her and then he knows.

We wish you all a happy new year 2012, and especially health, happiness and above all joy with your doggies.
Enjoy the hours with your four-legged friends as well as our good old group of Akita dogs in our dog school, which you can see in the photo. And these are, from left: Ute with Eishinyoo, Heiko and Akyo, Carmen with Bea, the two of us with Shadi and Jane, Jens, Raina with Ginkou and Christoph with Eichi.
In beautiful sunshine, we went on the way to a bit longer walking tour yeasterday. Our usual Christmas Walk with friends and Akitas had failed this year, apart from that we only had rain here in Saxony.
The Geierswalder Lake, an artificial lake that was created from a former lignite mine is located northwest of Hoyerswerda. It is the first usable tourist lake in the future Lusatian lake district. The opencast mine was flooded with water from the Black Elster and the recent renovation work ended in 2004. In 2006 the lake was opened to the public. Investors argue about the public use of the land and it remains to be seen how much the environment of the lake will be exploited commercially. At the moment, the landscape is still pretty wild and unrefined.
A beautiful bike path leads around the lake and so we thought that this tour could also be ideal as a dog trail. Finally, we walked significant 21 kilometers. Jane and Shadi have enjoyed the trails right on the water, as can be seen in the pictures.
